Details Mt Mitchell is located on the southern side of the Cunninghams Gap pass and can easily be distinguished by the dual peaks.

After about an hours drive, we will be parking on the northern side of the pass, we cross the road and follow a graded track to the East peak performing what has been described as a 'cardio blast'.

Magnificent views to the North, East, South and West are experienced both on the way up and also on the East peak. You just have to 'feel' the view to the east but not quite like poor Ethel (do ask about that story). Depending on our speed, I would like to have lunch on the East peak. For the excited and capable, an excursion to the West peak is planned (rated S88) while everyone else takes it easy with a stroll back to the bottom. There are additional short walks that start from the car park if you are interested.

The West peak is truly unique for Queensland. The sheer volume of air fern and moss is a must see. It is quite incredible to see so much green. For this section of the walk, I strongly recommend long trousers, long sleeved shirt and gloves as the area is quite pristine and the moss covers some pretty nasty spikey bushes. The area is quite slippery under foot and a lot of rock scrambling is involved. Hope to see you all there for a simply stunning walk.
