We
do require non members, as well as inexperienced members, to contact the walk
leader first to get their approval to attend the clubwalk.
Please advise the activity leader of your
experience level in relation to the proposed walk.
It will also allow the activity leader to discuss walk and other requirements with you.
Changes to This Weekend
This weekend was advertised as two day walks, and overnight base camp at Preston.
To make our lives more manageable, especially with the Pilgrimage on the following weekend, we have cut the weekend’s activities short. Saturday’s day walk has been cancelled, but Sunday’s walk to White Mountain etc will continue as planned. Everyone is welcome to camp overnight at Preston as planned, to enjoy a campfire and some socialising with members of BOSQ from Brisbane. Feel free to arrive anytime from about 3.00pm Saturday onwards.

Another weekend to share with members of the Bushwalkers of Southern
Queensland (BOSQ). We are looking at day walks on Saturday and Sunday, with camping and a campfire/social on the Saturday night at Preston. Please feel free to attend any or all of the weekend activities. Day Walk Saturday This walk will be in the Perseverance Heights area, mostly off-track, with some parts on fire trails in the area. Highlights will include the view over Perseverance dam to gain some appreciation of the drought effect on one of Toowoomba’s water catchments, some quite spectacular sandstone cliffs, and some little-known sandstone caves. Meet: Preston Colliery, 9.00am Sat Carry: Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, water for a dry day Wear: Sun protection, minimum sneakers Grade: M45 Campfire Saturday Night This will be at Barry and Donna’s place at Preston (Preston Colliery). BYO as for a normal base camp, nibbles to share. A bar-b-que is available to use for cooking. Directions: Drive south along Ruthven St. to Coles/Kmart. A further 4.5km turn left (signposted Preston, Stockyard Ck). 3km further on, turn left (signposted Winery). A further 2.8km brings you to the corner of Preston Boundary Rd and Hell Hole Creek Rd. Straight ahead is a “Reduce Speed” sign, and the entrance to Preston Colliery is immediately to the right of the sign. Day Walk Sunday Sunday’s walk will start from the base of White Mountain. We will follow a watercourse down to the junction of Fifteen Mile Creek and Paradise Creek, then walk up Paradise Creek for a while before ascending a ridge for views southwest to Toowoomba and Mt Tabletop. We will drop (well, clamber) down off the ridge into Jeannie Creek, and make our way upstream through some rainforest area, before breaking out of the gorge back to the cars. I suggest we pack up at Preston before leaving for the walk, so that BOSQ people can leave for Brisbane straight after the walk, without having to return back up the range to Toowoomba. Meet: Depart Preston Colliery 8.30am Carry: Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, water for a dry day Wear: Sun protection, boots preferred for rough off-track walking Grade: M67 |
