Details Mt Mee Forest Reserve is situated at the northern end of the D’Aguilar Range, about 2 1/2 hours from Toowoomba via Esk.

This will take us 3 hours with the usual stop at Kilcoy Bakery included.

We will camp at the Neurum Creek camping area in eucalypt forest. The camping area is not suitable for trailers, caravans or campervans. The facilities include water (that has to be boiled before drinking), septic toilets and fireplaces with BBQ plates. Open fires are allowed (except when fire bans apply) in the fire rings only.

BRING YOUR OWN clean, milled firewood as collecting wood from the forest reserve is not allowed.

Camping fees are $4.50 per person adults and children. Sites will be booked after the meeting.

Rocky Hole is a spectacular swimming hole 2 km from the camp ground. This is on Neurum Creek and has top and bottom swimming pools as well as a spa area so guaranteed not to disappoint.

We will depart from the Neil Street car park at 6.00 am on Saturday. Stop at Kilcoy for smoko and then onto our camp site arriving approx 10.30 am.

After setting up camp I plan to walk the Somerset Trail (13 km) in the afternoon. The trail takes 3–4 hrs and passes through rainforest and dry open forest. The walk gives you the opportunity to experience the great variety of native plants and geological features that exist in the Mt Mee Forest Reserve. About half way along the trail you will have views to the west overlooking Somerset and Wivenhoe Dams.

There are several shorter walks to 1.5 km and the Gantry Day-Use area to explore for those that do not want to do the Somerset Trail. The Gantry area is named after the huge gantry structure that still stands there-the last remains of the old sawmill which operated until 1981.

On Sunday I am planning an early climb of Mt Tibrogargan or a circuit of the mountain for those not wanting or able to climb. This very steep climb takes approx 3 hrs up and back depending on the numbers. This climb is not for anyone afraid of heights or open rock faces. There are two circuits Tibrogargan Circuit 3.3 km approx 1.5 hrs or Trachyte Circuit 5.6 km and 2-3 hrs.

The drive to Mt Tibrogargan will take a short hour and well worth it even if only for the views of the Glass House Mountains. Our reward after the climb or circuit can be a delicious fruit smoothie or coffee from the fruit stall nearby. We will then head back to pack up our dry tents and have a swim before heading home.
