Small remnants of the rainforest and wet eucalypt forest
that once covered this part of the Great Dividing Range
are preserved in Ravensbourne National Park . Evidence
suggests the rainforest is slowly overtaking the open forest.
With some recent rain the place is looking good but
could be muddy underfoot with rampant lantana and some
slippery rocks.
We descend about 200m from the picnic
area, initially on graded tracks and fire trails, then a steep
pebbly slippery descent to Buaraba Creek where we encounter
the lantana and some creek walking.
We contour around a steep waterfall area then descend
a steep spur to the creek and ultimately the falls.
There are rock pools for swimming and we return on
the other side of the creek with more off-track creek scrambling
– subject to creek flow – then the long graded climb to
the creek and rock scrambling, then back to the cars on the
park track.
Bring your day pack with minimum 2 litres of drinking water,
morning/afternoon tea, lunch and your swimming
togs.
