600km round trip
Start Time
7:00am Saturday from the top K-Mart carpark next to the mail exchange
Details
The club has enjoyed exploring the high country of Washpool and Gibraltar Ranges National Parks in
central northern NSW, so this time we’ll delve into the deep valley just south of this area.
Meeting 7am in the top K-Mart carpark (off Stenner St next to the mail exchange) we’ll then head
south through Tenterfield to turn east at the Dundee shortcut road to the Gwydir highway. Once on
the highway heading towards Grafton, we travel 9km before turning right and descending (an understatement)
into the valley via a good dirt/
bitumen road.
Distance about 300km each
way.
I have no particular walks planned for this
weekend (and will defer to Adrian’s greater experience
of the area), but intend the creekside
campground to be a home base for explorations
and relaxation. Rocky slabs and pools
make it a pleasant spot to refresh and recharge,
so bring a good book, deck of cards
and plenty to eat.
Campground is basic with composting toilet, a
few tables, and some friendly wallabies.
Call if you have questions, otherwise, see you
then.
