Blackfellows Falls rivals Mt. Castle as the “classic” walk in the Goomburra area. 60% of the 15
km circuit I propose is on maintained forestry tracks, with the other 40% being off track & quite
difficult sometimes. I’d grade the walk about M77. Not as hard as Barry’s Steamers/Superbus circuit in June but harder than the Steamers circuit I led. I’d expect to be back to the cars about 5 pm but bring your torch ‘just in case’. Commencing at the Mt. Castle car park, the route I propose follows the track west along the crest of the Great Divide. A steep 450 metre descent leads us to Blackfellows Ck. downstream from the falls from where a spectacular ridge ascends to the edge of the Mistake Mountains. The kilometre from here to the top of Blackfellows Falls will be a little tedious as we try and avoid raspberry vine and other obstacles. Gaiters or long trousers are essential. Views from the top of the falls and nearby make the effort worthwhile though. Some overgrown and then cleared forestry track completes the circuit. Options for those who wish to participate in an easier walk in the area will be discussed at the meeting. There are some excellent short track walks in the same vicinity. We’ll depart promptly from the Neil Street car park at 7 am on Sunday. If you don’t like the early start then camping at Goomburra on Saturday night is an option. Ian Savage 46309089 0429 135278 |
