Details Sorry folks but we are going to have to postpone this event to another date. The canoe hire man at Ipswich says that it would not be safe yet for us to venture out on the river at this point as there is still quite a bit of water coming in from Lockyer Ck just above Loowood and other points. In fact he does not think that it will be canoeable until the new year but at least the weed will be washed away. Good to have someone on the ground who knows the area well.

I am happy to take a walk down Bull's Ck in Deongwar State Forest on Sunday as a replacement walk/canoe if anyone would like to go. It won't be a canoe trip but there could be some (maybe a lot) of water. It would be a case of walking in and seeing how much water is in the creek and if it is do-able.

Please let me know if you would like to do the Sunday walk as a replacement.

The warm weather is on the way so it’s time to dust off your water wings and come paddling down the upper reaches of the Brisbane River.

At least Wivenhoe Dam has some water. We will put the canoes in just below the dam wall where the gentle cascades should push us along. There are a few more gentle cascades as we take the bend in the river near Lowood and paddle along the other arm of the river towards the Fernvale Bridge. It will be a case of first in first served with canoes which we are hoping to hire from the Drayton Scout Group. There will be a cost of $10/head which will be donated to the Scout Group for the use of their canoes.

A little bit of organising at the beginning with a car shuffle to get people at the start and cars at the end of the course at Fernvale Bridge. The canoes will need to be carried down the slope to the water at the start just to get you into shape before we start.

What to bring:
A sense of fun, strong shoulders, hats, sunburn cream, something to cover the legs & arms as they tend to get the full force of the sun when paddling, gloves if you are likely to get blisters, foot protection ie waterproof sandals or booties, lunch and nibbles, at least 2L water particularly if it is hot, a sponge or cut down water bottle to bail out the water that always seems to puddle in the bottom, plastic bags or dry bag to put your belongings in as this time we won’t have any barrels. Water pistols come in handy as well (maybe that’s how the water gets in the bottom of the canoe).

Where will we meet:
At the Neil St car park to leave promptly at 7am.

Look forward to seeing you on the water. This is always a very relaxing day bushwalking on water.
