Flinders Peak is located in the Flinders-Goolman Conservation Estate, near Peak Crossing.
Flinders Plum picnic area is off the Ipswich/Boonah Rd. The turnoff is Mt Flinders Rd The climb to the top of Flinders Peak is a steep incline, challenging but worth it for the commanding view of the whole area. The walk is on a worn track most of the way with a few boulders to scramble and rock hop over. If you have a walking pole it would be most handy to use coming back down. For the Grading of this walk I would give: Terrain- open and steep terrain and minor rock hopping/scrambling using hands Fitness- 4/5 reasonable fitness if you climb to the top We will return along the same track so if you feel you cannot climb to the peak there are plenty of opportunities along the track to rest on shaded grassy or rocky lookouts with views of the valleys below. If you don’t like the challenge of a climb, The Sandy Creek Track is available to explore, leaving from the same picnic ground. The picnic ground is grassy with a shelter, tables, BBQ, and toilets. There are three hikes from the picnic area if you’re feeling energetic. (a) Sandy Creek - 3.5kms (b) Mt Blaine - 2.5kms (c) Flinders Peak - 6kms We will leave the Neil Street carpark at 7.30am, located opposite the old police station. You will need to bring at least 2lt of water, hat, snacks and lunch. |
