Many times in recent years I have pored
over maps planing new walks. Most of the
subsequent surveys though have left me
disillusioned due to the quantity of lantana
encountered. This walk on the other hand
left me excited.
It’s situated in sandstone country north-east of Helidon at the head of Redbank Creek. In my opinion it has most of the essentials for an enjoyable walk. Spectacular views, interesting geology and native vegetation. The walk I propose will be 8 to 10 km long depending how far we actually drive into the Forest Reserve (soon to be National Park). It’s an undulating circuit with about 300 metres to be lost and regained. Although nearly half the walk is off track the understorey is relatively open. A couple of sandstone razorbacks require care so overall I’d grade the walk about S55. We’ll depart as usual from the Neil Street car park at 8 a.m. I look forward to your company.
