Rainfall patterns have limited our ability to fully explore the Clarence River via canoe, so for now we‟ll keep our expectations within reason and aim to have a nice relaxing riverside camp. If we do get enough rain for an overnight river rapids adventure then that will be a bonus!
We'll base camp at the Clarence River Wilderness Lodge which sits alongside a 1km waterhole in the river. Canoeing, swimming and walking will be options, as well as reading a good book, playing cards, and enjoying life. The Lodge campground has composting toilet and wood-fired shower facilities, and anyone wanting a slightly more up-market accommodation option may like to hire a cabin. Camping costs $10/night. www.clarenceriver.com The access road is a mild adventure in itself, but is suitable for 2WD vehicles. It's about 3 hours from Toowoomba over the border via Warwick and Legume. If we do get enough summer storms, then there will be an option for an overnight canoe expedition including plenty of interesting rapids. Please note that since Australia Day is on a Tuesday, this is not an official long weekend – and anyone wishing to take full advantage of 4 days away will need to apply for a day off work on Monday. Also note that the family which runs The Lodge limits numbers to keep the campground from being too crowded, so I will need to make a firm booking as soon as possible. With this in mind, I'd appreciate a call, text or e-mail from anyone who‟d like to come, and tell me your preference for 4 day or only 2 day weekend, and overnight canoeing if available. This will aid with bookings prior to the January meeting. I'm looking forward to a paddle, a relax, and some fine company, so I hope you can join us.
