Koreelah NP is situated across on the NSW side of the border from the head of the Condamine River.
It was here in July 2007 that I experienced my lowest ever temperature on a club trip. Minus 8 degrees to be precise. I vowed I would come back sometime when the weather was warm enough to enjoy the water. Last years trip was cancelled (apart from a small advance party) due to torrential rain. Hopefully I will finally get to lead the trip this year.
Our proposed campsite is located at the upper end of Koreelah Gorge. Camping is on a self registration basis and costs $5 per person per night.
It’s a delightful spot with ample shady campsites beside the creek. Facilities are limited to a pit toilet, fire places and creek water. Bring enough drinking water for the weekend. Just downstream are some fantastic swimming holes. Flotation devices will be useful for those who aren’t strong swimmers.
The walking we decide to do will depend on the weather and the inclination of the group. I don’t plan on being too far away from water at any stage though.
Apart from the impressive gorge downstream from our campsite I’d also like to include a couple of favourites from the Queensland side of the border in our weekends itinerary.
The top of Teviot Falls and Kinnanes Falls are both worthy of exploration on a hot day. Although all walks are quite short you will need to be reasonable agile and be prepared to get your feet wet. I’d rate them all about S53.
We’ll meet at the Neil Street car park

The 150 km drive south-east via Warwick and Killarney should take about two & a half hours. This includes about 10 km of reasonable gravel road.
Come along and bring your valentine. Don’t worry if you don’t have one though as many a romance has been initiated around bushwalkers campfires.
